Abstract

Empowering English Language Teaching: AI-Enhanced Materials Development and Adaptation for Language Skills

In this workshop, participants will explore how generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools—such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Canva—can be used to develop and adapt skill-based materials for English language learners. The session will introduce practical strategies for implementing AI in material development, followed by a focus on key adaptation techniques: adding, simplifying, modifying, deleting, and reordering. Through hands-on examples and collaborative tasks, attendees will learn how to customize activities to suit learners’ proficiency levels and skills focus. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained insight into strategies for personalizing language learning and cognitively and emotionally engaging learners in the learning process while integrating AI into their materials development practices.
